How Online Dog Training Works

HOW ONLINE DOG TRAINING WORKS

Your Questions, Answered

HOW DOES ONLINE TRAINING WORK?

The first session is a one-hour information gathering session.  We review the dog's history form, take additional information, implement management, strategize and set goals.

The client is assigned homework, along with a step-by-step training plan. Many lesson plans include instructional video.  The client works on the skills and sends video to the instructor. The instructor provides detailed feedback and answers any questions.

Clients meet with the instructor twice a week (30-minute sessions).  The first session is a working session with the client training and getting immediate feedback. The next session is either a working session and/or an in-depth video review.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED TO HAVE?

You only need a few items to get started with online training!

  • A computer or phone with webcam

  • Internet connection

  • Zoom account

  • Headset (optional)

You will also need a selection of treats, treat bag and flat/buckle collar or body harness.  Our work is not appropriate for choke chains, pinch collars or eCollars. If you are currently using one of these collars, we will help you transition to new equipment.

WHAT IS TRELLO?

Trello is a collaboration tool that organizes your projects into boards. In one glance, Trello tells you what's being worked on, who's working on what, and where something is in a process.

Imagine a white board, filled with lists of sticky notes, with each note as a task for you and your team. Now imagine that each of those sticky notes has photos, attachments from other data sources like BitBucket or Salesforce, documents, and a place to comment and collaborate with your teammates. Now imagine that you can take that whiteboard anywhere you go on your smartphone, and can access it from any computer through the web.  (language from the Trello website)

WHAT IS YOUR TRAINING METHODOLOGY?

When working with your pet, we strive to follow the  Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive (LIMA) principles. This means we use plenty of what the dogs loves - treats/toys/affection - to increase good behavior.

We use positive reinforcement when training animals and humans.

Positive, force-free, animal-centric training methods are scientifically proven to have the best outcomes for dog and owners.

Aversive methods have been shown to be detrimental and have a high risk of behavioral fallout.
