Having a dog on a restricted diet can be a bit tricky when choosing high value treats. I regularly make a quick, easy, limited ingredient turkey treat that is easy on the tummy. It takes only minutes to prepare and about an hour+ to cook and slice. I use this treat with client dogs and they all give it a four paws up!
1 pound of ground meat (I use turkey)
¼ cup of finely ground Parmesan or Romano cheese
1 large egg
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a medium size bowl, combine the ingredients until they are evenly distributed. You may want to use your hands, or a stand mixer, for an even mix.
Spread and flatten the mix into a baking dish. I use a 9” X 13” ceramic baking dish. The mixture should be about ½” thick.
Bake for 50-60 minutes or until the meat is fully cooked. Remove from the oven and cool. Once cool, cut the meat into manageable slabs - about 4” X 4” slices. Wrap the meat in paper towels and cook in the microwave on low setting for 4 minutes. This dries out the meat a bit, and the paper towels soak up some of the fat. This step is important to keep the treats from being too crumbly.
Once the treats are room temperature, transfer them to the refrigerator to chill. When cooled, you can cut the treat into any size.
